Hi everyone, Judy Iverson and I have decided to put a newsletter together to keep all the Clubs up to date as to what’s happening at State level.
Firstly, I recently had the opportunity to attend race meetings in Moranbah and Mackay. A huge congratulations to Brad, Tracey and all their committee members for a fantastic night of racing at the Moranbah track, as we are all aware the track hasn’t run for a long time and there was huge amount of work went in to make this meeting happen so get behind these people and when you next see a meeting listed for Moranbah get your cars ready and nominate. The next two meetings were in Mackay and both nights went well. It’s great to see new competitors joining our class and some of the younger ones are certainly putting their stamp on it with some fantastic results. Coen Archer & Brooke Etherden are names we are going to hear a lot more of. All meetings were run in good spirit although some of our experienced drivers need to cut the argy bargy stuff and this is something all our stewards need to keep an eye on.
INSURANCE: There has been some talk recently about insurance. We have recently been made aware that the Australian Formula 500 Association are shareholders of Speedway Australia and as you would be aware it states in our rule book that we are affiliated with them and run our racing in conjunction with their rule book. So as it stands we race at only Speedway Australia race tracks!
JUNIOR DRIVERS: On Saturday August 20 the Brisbane Formula 500 club had a junior training day to train three new drivers, with this in mind it gave the State Executive the opportunity to invite Scott Davis from Cairns down to see how the trainers being Steve Thorley and Kristin Brown conduct the day. Our idea is that if all trainers are doing it the same way then this can only make the job easier. The day was a huge success and it’s fantastic so see the junior car numbers starting to grow with ten cars in Brisbane to start the season. Ryan Skennar was also trained on the day to become a trainer and this will only benefit the Brisbane club in the future.
WEBSITE: We are currently in the process of getting new website, within this our plan is to have allow all Clubs to have access for uploading information. As more progress becomes available about this we’ll pass it on.
MEETINGS: I think it would be of a great advantage to the State Clubs if we could get together for more than one meeting a year. My idea is to get the Club Presidents together at a meeting around October/November and another around February each year, this would give Clubs a better opportunity to discuss rule changes and other items we want to put forward for both National and State AGM’s. So please give us your thoughts on this and we’ll see if we can make it happen.
Regards Tony Cochrane
